iMcQueeni is one of the most inspirational artists I’ve ever seen. Check her out!
My name is Greta Twist, and I’m 21 years old. I label myself as a lesbian with very slight heterosexual tendencies. I have been with my girlfriend Nicole for going-on 3 years officially, 4 years unofficially
(how that works: we loved each other for a full year before we started dating each other) I recently moved from Ohio to Florida to be closer to my girlfriend, as she had moved in late 2010. While living in Ohio, a few of my friends and I started a group called Raise Your Glass, or RYG for short. We created this group of (mostly) transgendered individuals to help them see that everything is okay, and everything works out in the end. We focused mainly on transgendered youth from the ages of 18 - 30, as there were a ton of LGBT groups but little-to-no groups focusing mainly on transgenders. In high school I had a few friends who were transgendered, and I know the struggle they went through: the MTFs learning makeup and clothing choices for their body types; the FTMs learning how to bind and dress more androgynous; and both groups just not knowing how to come out to their parents/loved ones. That killed me inside, and I just felt the need to help in any way I could. That’s how Robyn and I came up with RYG: a group where you can be yourself, no matter what your “self” is. Straight, gay, lesbian, bisexual, genderqueer, and transgendered people were all involved in RYG. We did have a few days where it was just the FTMs, or the MTFs, or the transgendered without the others in the group, as we felt that sometimes that’s what some people wanted.
I’d like to start an RYG here in Southern Florida, to help out all of the troubled youth, or even just to let people have a safe place to hang out and be themselves. That’s my goal in life, to make people happy and comfortable in their own skins. We can do whatever; this isn’t a doctor’s appointment, nor is it a place to feel like you have to be something you’re not. It’s just a place to chill and hang out with people who understand, and accept you for YOU. If you need tips applying makeup, picking out clothes, binding, or anything else, it’s a safe place to learn, make mistakes, eat pizza, build blanket forts and watch movies.
Here’s a picture of my girlfriend and I. I’m the one with the crazy red-orange hair. ^.^
If you want a safe place to be YOU, and you live in Southern Florida, then you’ll love this group!
Basically just a transgender support group, for hanging out at malls, makeup and clothes shopping for the ladies, and video games/movies/etc for the guys, and vice versa! A lot of dinner parties and movie nights are to come. And we won’t turn away any straight allies or anyone from the LGBTQ community.
